Institute for Energy Efficiency in Production (EEP) at the University of Stuttgart

Both the Heinz and Heide Dürr Foundation and the Karl Schlecht Foundation have established the Institute for Energy Efficiency in Production (EEP) at the University of Stuttgart in 2012 in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA).

The sustainable energy development in Germany will be successful only if we succeed to separate prosperity and economic growth from primary energy consumption and fossil fuels.

For this purpose, three core strategic objectives should be pursued:

  • Expanding the use of renewable energy sources

  • Decentralization of energy exploitation by the development of networks to smart grids

  • Massive improvement in energy efficiency

The objectives of the Institute are:

1. Enlightening the society and politics on the basis of statistics, facts and figures

2. Developing and promoting effective technologies for the implementation of energy efficiency measures in industry

3. Integrating the concept into the university´s teaching

4. Setting up awards.

As the first public event, the First Stuttgart Efficiency Summit was held on 16th May 2013, to which the Director of the Institute Prof. Dr. Bauernhansl was invited.
