Cultural Competences for Leaders

The "Bronnbach Scholarship" is a programme for the cultural education of prospective managers, which was developed by the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft im BDI e.V. (Cultural Circle of the German Economy within the BDI e.V.). It is offered at the University of Mannheim and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). It is aimed at master's and doctoral students in law, economics and MINT subjects - and thus at students from subjects that are originally far removed from culture. However, creativity is a central quality of leadership and a basic requirement for innovative processes.

In dialogue with art educators, artists, collectors, as well as entrepreneurs and top managers interested in art and culture, the scholarship holders are interactively introduced to contemporary art and culture in order to further develop their cultural competencies. There is no comparable programme in Germany for the cultural education and competence training of junior executives and decision-makers. From the point of view of the Karl Schlecht Foundation, the programme thus closes a gap in these courses of study: It makes a contribution to comprehensive personality development as a central prerequisite for good leadership.
