Opernkinderorchester - join in instead of sitting in the audience

The Staatsoper Unter den Linden has set itself the goal of establishing a children's orchestra. Together with 15 Berlin music schools she started the project "Opernkinderorchester" in 2018. In the Opera Children's Orchestra, children between the ages of 7 and 12, who were previously selected by their music teachers from a musical and pedagogical point of view, actively participate in opera operations. The young musicians immerse themselves in the opera business by attending rehearsals, workshops and making music together under the direction of the Berlin conductor Max Renne. The annual highlights of the Children's Opera Orchestra are concerts and performances during the State Opera Festival, where the children perform as equal participants alongside the Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, the orchestra performs at schools to pass on its enthusiasm for music to other children.

The Karl Schlecht Foundation supports the Opera Children's Orchestra, because the early orchestra experience not only increases the joy of making music together, but also makes a decisive contribution to the personal development of young people.
